Humans of Crisp: Jess Flindell
Jessica (Jess) Flindell became a part of our growing team two and a half years ago, moving here from Kuala Lumpur. Originally growing up in Perth, moving to Malaysia at 7 years old and travelling a lot around South East Asia as a child, Melbourne became her permanent home so she could study Communication Design at Swinburne. And, alas she joined the team at Crisp juggling her full time study with part time work.
Describe a bit about yourself, what do you do in your spare time? Describe your interests and hobbies.
I always find myself scrolling through endless videos or articles on recipes, pretty much day dreaming about food. I also try to explore new eats around Melbourne when I can. Cooking is definitely something I love spending my time on. I like seeing people happy with the food I make, especially on new recipes that may not always turn out how I planed. Apart from food, I love trying new arts/crafting experiences. When I have the time I draw or paint and even make clay Jewellery.
What are your future ambitions?
Since graduating with a Bachelors Degree in communication design, I hope to establish myself in design world. I want to help create new ways people can interact with products and publications, so that they can reflect storytelling, journeys and the human race’s needs better. (an amazing dream, we can’t wait to see where this journey goes for Jess)
What’s up next for you? Any Travel plans?
This year I am planning a trip up the east coast of Australia for a music festival, Splendour in Byron Bay. I’ve never gone that far on a road trip so I’m very excited!
Internationally, I want to travel back to Europe; to Spain, Germany, Netherlands and Prague. Really I want to travel everywhere, (same here! Count us in). Ever since I can remember, I’ve always travelled. And each time I fell in love with the people and culture of the destination. I don’t think I’ll ever stop having the need to broaden my horizons.
What is your Favourite Food/s:
Do I have to only pick one? I love them all.
Describe your typical lunch to us at Crisp.
Before the chilli bowl winter last year, I have to say my go-to would be the Chicken Chipotle salad. I like putting my own twist to it, having two eggs or falafel instead of the chicken and adding a bit of the jalapeño lime dressing.
You’ve been with the Crisp Team for nearly 3 years, what’s do you love about the environment?
The flexible hours were a highlight. As a student it was important to juggle to balance between study and work. I feel like crisp is such a wonderful place to work, mainly because of the people that make it. Friendly, lively and warm people that make me look forward to coming in everyday.
