A morning with Wellineux

Wellineux Wellness Ateliers

Last week Crisp had the pleasure of attending – and sponsoring – the Atelier Wellness Breakfast, hosted by the lovely ladies of Wellineux. The monthly breakfast workshops feature a guest speaker , and cover all aspects of wellness, health and nutrition. This month, Damian Kristoff, a naturopath and chiropractor, gave an honest and inspirational talk about his health philosophy, and ethos towards wellbeing and ‘intelligent eating’.

The concept of ‘intelligent’ eating especially resonated with us. Intelligent eating is about eating fresh produce that has minimal to no processing – fresh fruit and vegetables and raw nuts, grains and seeds – anything with a life force or ‘brain’ within it. Using an example of an apple, Damian explained that the apple seeds act as the brain- if taken from the apple the apple would begin to die – shriveling and fermenting. The seeds however, if planted and watered, would begin to grow again – acting as the life force of the apple. Damian explained that when we eat processed foods, our brain does not release the right chemicals to tell us we are full. This is why you can keep eating packets upon packets of chips! When we eat intelligent foods, our body’s triggers tell us when we are full, and so we eat only until our body is sufficiently fueled. You can’t pig out on apples!

Damian’s philosophy is about mindfully eating; making more conscious decisions without depriving yourself of what you enjoy.  He shares the Crisps ethos that life and food are all about a healthy balance.

Accompanied by an amazing spread of delicious and nutritious food, the workshops are about creating open discussion about wellness and nutrition. No one is perfect, and the morning is best spent speaking with other people, hearing their stories and sharing yours. We talked about bad habits, and Damien helped us to recognise our food triggers, and suggested helpful tips to improve mindfulness and make better decisions.

The room was filled with people from all walks of life, and it was a refreshing change from the regular work routine. We left the event invigorated, energised and inspired, and with a sweet goody bag (featuring Crisp Day cards!). We can’t wait for the next Atelier Wellness Workshop on the 20th of September, featuring Alice Nicholls, nutritionist and creative behind The Whole Daily and AliceNicholls.com. More information and tickets can be purchased from Wellineux.
